April 13, 2025Reclaiming Responsibility in a World We Helped Create
In my last post, I wrote about the monsters we’ve created—technologies, ideologies, and systems that have taken on lives of their own. We built them. And then, like Victor Frankenstein, we abandoned them.
But here’s the hard truth: it’s not just “them.” It’s not just the politicians, or the corporations, or the algorithms.
It’s us, too.
Every time we scroll past misinformation without questioning it.
Every time we stay silent because it’s easier.
Every time we choose comfort over clarity.
Every time we reward a leader for being entertaining instead of honest.
Our fingerprints are on the monster.
So… now what?
We don’t get to undo what we’ve built—but we do get to respond differently. We can begin reclaiming responsibility with small, real acts. Not grand gestures. Daily choices.
- Choose to read before you react.
- Choose to ask why something makes you feel outraged.
- Choose to have a conversation instead of a confrontation.
- Choose to teach your kids—or your friends—how to spot manipulation.
These aren’t heroic acts. They’re human ones.
But if enough of us do them, they change everything.
A Village of Watchers
We don’t need saviors. We need witnesses.
People willing to wake up, stay awake, and help others do the same.
That’s what this space is about. That’s what I’m building here.
So let me ask you directly:
Where do you see your own fingerprints on the monster?
And what’s one thing—just one—you’re willing to do differently?
I’d love to hear from you.
